The original constitution and the current constitution according to Ayurveda
The Tri Doshas, namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are always present within our bodies. They are the humors or components that make our body work, that are behind all our bodily functions. However, each and everyone of us have a different combination of these humors, and we may have one or two doshas predominant, or else, the three doshas in balance within ourselves.
The unique proportion of the Tri Doshas present in one's body at the moment that we were conceived is called original constitution or Prakrti. Everybody has one original constitution. However, this constitution may have changed because of the flow of time, lifestyle, diet, the place where we live, the experiences that we have had, and the diseases that we may have developed, among other factors.
Prakrti is our original constitution, it is the level of the doshas in our body when we are conceived. It depends on the Prakrti of our parents at the moment of conception, the food our mother had during pregnancy and external factors during pregnancy. If we want to be healthy in this life, we have to aim directly to our Prakrti. We need to recover or maintain our original constitution that may had been affected by innumerable experiences and different factors in our lives.
Vikrti is the current constitution of our doshas. By understanding our Vikrti we can understand what dosha is aggravated (increased), diminished or balanced. Therefore it is very important to understand these two factors before we attempt to balance our doshas.
