Balancing Asanas
The center of balance in our body is the cerebellum. Just by doing our daily chores this organ may not have many possibilities of stimulation or specific training. To compensate this, the balancing asanas activate the cerebellum, being quite beneficial for the whole nervous system as well.
Examples of this goup of asanas are Eka Pada Pranamasana, Bakasana and Garudasana.

Some of these asanas may be quite challenging at the beginning: our body may not have developed one's sense of balance. The key is to concentrate the mind on one point, gazing at one fix object for the whole performance of the asana. In that way, we will be developing our concentration, and getting balance in a physical, emotional, mental, and even in an energetic level. After a few weeks of practice, they will become very easy to do, and you will be able to perform them even with your eyes closed! The practice is worth it: asanas like Vrikshasana or Eka Pada Pranamasana have proved to be effective in increasing the ventilation of the pulmonary system, the breathing frequency, the elimination of carbon dioxide, the consumption of oxygen, the heart rate and the pulse (1). This implies a renovation of the extracellular medium, which gives our cells the possibility to receive fresh nutrients, oxygen, and release old waste materials. That simple action will boost the life of our cells and improve our health.
